WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Harley Quinn Season 1, streaming now on DC Universe.

Much like the recent Batman stories from Tom King, DC Universe's Harley Quinn TV series has painted Kite Man as major comic relief. Known for his "Hell Yeah!" catchphrase, he's spent most of Season 1 trying to impress and woo Poison Ivy with his bevy of kites and skills as a criminal.

In the seventh episode, "The Line," after rebuffing many attempts, Ivy finally ended up dating him in secret as his clumsy charm won her over. But, while it seemed everything was on the upswing for Kite Man, the penultimate episode this season, "Devil's Snare," hands him his biggest victory before almost immediately crushing him with a blow he won't recover from anytime soon.

Kite Man's called in by Ivy when Harley's crew gets stuck on a giant beanstalk evading a cyclops. The Queen of Fables placed them there after they kicked her out, and with Scarecrow's killer trees attacking Gotham, the Queen and Joker have made an alliance to take out the Legion of Doom and claim the chaos-filled city for themselves. In a fell swoop, though, Kite Man rescues Ivy's squad, and as he flies off with her in his hands, she admits to everyone they're officially a couple.

The rest of the crew is unsurprised as they could see the signs, but Harley's shocked. She didn't know her bestie was into him, albeit it could be she's blinded by feelings they're both holding for each other on the inside. Nonetheless, it's a huge notch on the belt as Ivy keeps calling him "babe," finally accepting he's a hunk. It's basically Kite Man's dream come true as he gets the girl, and he gets to be a hero. On the ground, however, things don't go that well because when he proposes to Ivy, she tells him they ought to discuss it another time, as in when the city's not being decimated. He believes she's just preoccupied, but the naive Kite Man can't see his reluctant lover is indeed torn between him and Harley.

But, that's not the big blow. It comes when Ivy uses some of Scarecrow's tree serum and turns into a giant herself, wiping out all the killer trees. As Ivy celebrates with Harley, Kite Man thinks they're just girls having fun, but the party comes to a grinding halt when Joker spears Ivy through the heart, killing her. Kite Man is broken into a million pieces because he's left thinking she really was going to marry him.

He's delusional, but it's understandable why he'd see her as his potential wife given the essence of the character -- he always sees the world through rose-colored glasses. And, sadly, it's stained with crimson right now, as he's gutted from watching the love of his life perish in Harley's hands.

In a matter of seconds, he goes from the highest high to the lowest low, and you can't help but feel traumatized for him. Kite Man deserved better as he really did treat her like a queen. He was genuine and loved Ivy deeply, which means he could switch gears and become the Joker's worst nightmare. And, honestly, it'd be just comeuppance for the Clown Prince of Crime, because Ivy was definitely robbed of a shot at happiness, regardless of who she ended up choosing to spend her life with.
