WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Harley Quinn Season 2, Episode 8, "Inner (Para) Demons," now streaming on DC Universe.

Quirk Marriages are a key part of My Hero Academia's extensive lore. Such unions occur when two people marry with the main goal of having children with more powerful Quirks. While there are a number of examples of Quirk Marriages in the anime and manga, the most notable instance is Enji Todoroki/Endeavor and Rei Todoroki, who combined their fire and ice powers in Shoto Todoroki, one My Hero Academia's main characters. There are, perhaps, few shows more different from My Hero Academia -- which is targeted at a young male audience -- than the adult comedy Harley Quinn on DC Universe. However, Quirk Marriages also seem to exist in the world of Harley Quinn, too.

Season 2 of Harley Quinn has focused on Pamela Isley/Poison Ivy and Charles "Chuck" Brown/Kite Man planning their wedding. The latest episode, "Inner (Para) Demons," sees the two meeting with Kite Man's parents at Senor Mexico's Authentic Mexican Adobe House. Kite Man is anxious to impress his parents, and when Ivy forgets to make a reservation, he freaks out. This ends up being for good reason, as Kite Man's parents blame him for not making a reservation. While Ivy does her best to smooth things over, Kite Man's parents consistently treat him horrible.

When he gets up to go to the bathroom, it's revealed both of them have superpowers, and they're disappointed Kite Man didn't inherit any of his own. However, they're thrilled Ivy -- who does have powers -- is going to have kids with Kite Man. "We want the best for our grandkids," Kite Man's father says, "and that is them having superpowers, not pretending to have them." Kite Man's mother adds, "You're the answer to our prayers." This puts off Ivy, and at the end of the meal, she berates Kite Man's parents for their terrible treatment of him and their attitude towards superpowers.

There's definitely a comparison to be made here with My Hero Academia's Quirk Marriages. In this case, while the marriage is not one designed solely to give children superpowers, that's absolutely a consideration Kite Man's parents have when hearing about their son's marriage to Ivy. While there's certainly something gross about this, it's also very unlikely this is an isolated incident. Generally, superhero comics have presented having special abilities as an advantage over the powerless everyman. This has, on some occasions, led to this kind of idea of breeding stronger, better superpowered individuals appearing in the comics. This also has real world corollaries in people marrying for money and power. As such, the fact people in the world of Harley Quinn are looking to do the same thing certainly isn't far-fetched, even if it's genuinely pretty gross.

DC Universe's Harley Quinn stars Kaley Cuoco, Lake Bell, Diedrich Bader, Alan Tudyk, Rahul Kohli, Christopher Meloni, Tony Hale, Ron Funches, Wanda Sykes, Natalie Morales, Jim Rash, Giancarlo Esposito, Jason Alexander and J.B. Smoove. New episodes air on Fridays.
