Harley Quinn is going to die in her solo series, and she will have to solve the mystery of her own murder.
DC Comics released its solicitations for Sept. 2022, including details and a synopsis for Harley Quinn #22 by writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Matteo Lolli. The synopsis (written in the style of Quinn herself) promises that Harley gets "killed in this one...for real" and that since fictional detectives like Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot aren't available, she will need to solve the crime of her death herself. Just how Harley will die remains to be seen, but the title promises a wild arc for readers to dive into.

Harley has been dealing with a murderous foe, "The Verdict," in the title's recent issues. This gun-toting vigilante has been targeting Gotham City's corrupt officials, criminals who cheat the system and worse, not only killing her targets but removing one of their eyeballs as a calling card. Due to a personal connection to the clown princess, Verdict framed Harley for murder, but she has yet to go as far as killing Harley like all of her other victims.
Whether Verdict will be in Harley Quinn #22 is unknown as of writing, but the issue does mark another milestone for the series. The solicitation labels Lolli as Harley Quinn's new artist, a role that has been held by artist Riley Rossmo since the beginning of the character's latest comic book run that launched with the Infinite Frontier era of DC Comics. Rossmo will still contribute to the Harley Quinn 30th Anniversary Special #1 one-shot, which releases in September as well with the return of previous Harley Quinn creators like Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Paul Dini, Chad Hardin and more.
As for Harley Quinn #22's cover artwork, the issue will continue to homage some of Batman's iconic covers throughout history, like artist Brian Bolland's work on Batman: The Killing Joke #1. The upcoming issue will feature a variant cover by Ryan Sook that adds Harley's silhouette alongside the Caped Crusader's in a homage to writer-artist Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #1. The homage variants were previously announced to only run across Harley Quinn #18 through Harley Quinn #21 and Harley Quinn 2022 Annual #1.
Harley Quinn #22 is written by Phillips with interior and main cover art by Lolli. Variant covers for the issue are contributed to by Sook, David Baldeon, Natali Sanders and Stjepan Šejić. The issue goes on sale Sept. 27 from DC Comics.
