Gunn's message was part of an exchange with Harley Quinn co-showrunner Patrick Schumacker. After Gunn shared a video of his dog growling at screen -- more specifically at a certain hyena -- while an episode of the show was paused, Schumacker thanked Gunn for amplifying Harley Quinn. Schumacker also joked that maybe Gunn's endorsement could help with a Season 3 renewal, confessing that he has yet to hear anything official.

Harley Quinn premiered on DC Universe in November 2019, with Season 2 arriving this past April. Both seasons were released on HBO Max early last month. The series follows Harley Quinn after she breaks up with the Joker and journeys to find her identity and place in Gotham. Part of this journey includes team-ups with notorious DC villains such as Poison Ivy, King Shark, Clayface and Doctor Psycho. While the series has been met with positive reception, there is still no word on a Season 3 renewal.
