The following contains spoilers for Harley Quinn Season 3, Episode 4, "A Thief, A Mole, An Orgy," now available on HBO Max.

As Season 3 of Harley Quinn rolls on, Harley and Poison Ivy have been charting the best future possible after the past drama. Luckily, the love triangle with Kite Man was put to bed, with all parties moving on after Kite Man got together with Golden Glider. It was a sigh of relief for Ivy, who felt guilty, leaving Harley embracing her soulmate even more.

However, that peacetime was short-lived, due to the revelation of another romantic trifecta. And much like the Kite Man debacle, this one caused a lot of trouble, riling Harley up just when she thought the waters were calm. While Harley was eventually able to gain closure again, it's going to be quite bittersweet.

This revolves around the revelation Ivy made when she and Harley infiltrated a sex party that the Court of Owls hosted. Ivy and Harley were there to find Frank, but a bit of miscommunication resulted in Ivy admitting she and Selina had a fling four years earlier. However, while Ivy was all in, Catwoman couldn't be tamed, which left Ivy heartbroken.

She took some time to get over it, which is why she was hesitant about Harley. This left Harley livid because she wondered what other secrets Ivy kept. After all, she thought they had a sisterhood, but it turns out Selina helping them, loaning them her mansion and offering romantic advice wasn't objective -- it was skewed due to her and Ivy's checkered history. Luckily, Ivy reassured an insecure Harley there was nothing to worry about. She and Selina were all style and no substance, but that emptiness isn't present in their bond now.

Harley Quinn may have to turn on Poison Ivy in Season 3

That's how Ivy knows she and Harley share true, nuanced love. But while they left the party on solid ground, with Harley head over heels after the truth emerged, there'll be danger down the line. Seeing as Harley thinks what they have is real and should last forever, the real test will come when she has to rein Ivy back in from their twisted plan. Harley encouraged her to terraform Gotham and make it a giant jungle again, but the trailer showed Harley repentant and no longer wanting the garden. Ivy was fuming, because she thought Harley shared their dream. The garden's clearly a symbol of their love, so if Harley reneges on it, Ivy won't take it lightly, which could really damage Harley.

This can turn Ivy into an unhinged villain who may think she's best on her own. She clearly was clamoring for someone to cure her trauma, which is why she gravitated to Kite Man, despite them not having the best chemistry. Now, if Ivy felt she found that home with Harley, only for Harley to betray her, well, it'll leave them devastated and Harley with that gaping hole she had with the Clown Prince of Crime. All she would have wanted was to save Ivy, which sets up Harley's greatest test. Ultimately, it looks like she'll have to sacrifice the relationship she thought was perfect to save the city, while knowing she tipped Ivy over the edge.
