DC announced HBO Max ordered a third season of the adult animated show Harley Quinn and according to showrunners, one villain will always survive the series.

Co-showrunners Patrick Schumacker and Justin Halpern told EW they are not against killing off characters in Harley Quinn. However, there is one character besides Harley and Ivy that they will never let die. "We'll kill almost any character that's not Harley or Ivy, but we'll never kill Bane," promised Halpern.

James Adomian plays Bane in the animated series as a depiction of Tom Hardy's character in Dark Knight Rises. However, while the Bane in Dark Knight is portrayed as a menacing villain, the Bane in Harley Quinn is constantly portrayed as a silly, incapable villain and Joker's least favorite henchman. Throughout the show, Bane has a folding chair while the rest of the Injustice League has an executive chair and the league constantly makes fun of him.

In Season 2, Bane presided over Harley and Ivy's trial in the murder of Oswald Cobblepot and sentenced the duo to rehabilitation in his pit prison. However, the two escaped during a riot and Harley ripped Bane's venom veins, sending him hurtling to his death. Bane survived the fall, which is in line with Halpern's promise to keep the character alive, and the villain resurfaced during Doctor Psycho's broadcasting of Harley and Ivy's romance, saying he saw the relationship coming because "the tension was palpable." Bane can also be seen again as a guest at Ivy and Kite Man's wedding.

Harley Quinn stars Kaley Cuoco, Lake Bell, Diedrich Bader, Alan Tudyk, Rahul Kohli, Christopher Meloni, Tony Hale, Ron Funches, Wanda Sykes, Natalie Morales, Jim Rash, Giancarlo Esposito, Jason Alexander and J.B. Smoove. The first two seasons of the show are available to stream on DC Universe and HBO Max, and the third season will be exclusively available on HBO Max.
