French film studio Gaumont will launch its international television division next month with a development slate that includes Hannibal, a one-hour drama from Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller.
The drama will center on the early days of Hannibal Lecter, the brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer featured in the series of horror novels by Thomas Harris. Specifically, Hannibal will flesh out the backstory of the 1981 novel Red Dragon, with Lecter facing off against FBI profiler Will Graham.
Fuller (Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls) will executive produce with Martha De Laurentiis (Hannibal Rising, Red Dragon).
Los Angeles-based Gaumont International Television also plans to develop Madame Tussaud from The Borgias producer Michael Hirst, based on the new novel by Michelle Moran. The six-hour miniseries follows the rise to prominence of the wax artist during the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror.
