Disney and Lucasfilm apparently are casting a wide net in its search for actors to play a young Han Solo in the 2018 "Star Wars" spinoff.

How wide? According to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, more than 2,500 actors have either read in person or sent in tapes to the studio, with directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller tasked with narrowing down the contenders.

The website contends the list is a veritable who's who of young Hollywood, with everyone from Aaron Taylor-Johnson ("Avengers: Age of Ultron") and Miles Teller ("Fantastic Four") to Tom Felton ("Harry Potter") and Colton Haynes ("Arrow") throwing their hats in the ring. While the candidates range in age from 16-year-old Chandler Riggs ("The Walking Dead") to 34-year-old Rami Malek ("Mr. Robot"), the studio reportedly is aiming for someone in his mid-20s.

Lucasfilm is of course targeting an actor who resembles a young Harrison Ford, and who can be funny and charming. To that end, THR states, a few comedians have been asked to read for the role.

Written by franchise veteran Lawrence Kasdan, the untitled film is set to begin production in January 2017, which means there's plenty of time to settle on a young Solo. The film opens May 25, 2018.
