Production on the next anthology Star Wars film is underway. After a tease a few weeks ago from co-director Chris Miller, the official Star Wars site has announced that the still untitled Han Solo anthology film has begun principal photography.

The shoot began on February 20 at London's Pinewood Studios. The announcement comes with the first partial cast photo, as the film's actors crammed themselves into the Millennium Falcon's cockpit.

The confirmed cast, as revealed by StarWars.com, includes Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. Additionally, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are officially part of the cast, although their character names have not been revealed.

Based on previous reports, we know that Woody Harrelson is most likely playing Han Solo's mentor. Additionally, it's been reported that Phoebe Waller-Bridge will play the first ever prominent female droid in the Star Wars film franchise. Emilia Clarke joined the cast of the young Han Solo film back in November, although specifics about her character have yet to be revealed. Newton was first rumored to join the cast in early February. This release confirms her involvement, although she is not pictured in the photo.

“Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous,” said director Phil Lord and Chris Miller. “We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”

The film comes from a screenplay by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan; Kawrence Kasdan previously wrote "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" and co-wrote "The Force Awakens" with J.J. Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur, Simon Emanuel are on board as producers, with Kiri Hart, Susan Towner, and Will Allegra serving as co-producers. Kasdan and Jason McGatlin will executive produce.

The announcement also reaffirms the film's original release date of May 25, 2018. A rumor emerged last month that the film may be pushed back to December 2018. Since the saga's return with 2015's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the franchise has released films in the week leading up to Christmas every year. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" dropped in December 2016 and "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" will open this December. It looks like as of now, the Han Solo film is still on track to be released in May.

Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller from a script by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan and starring Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson, the still-untitled Han Solo “Star Wars” anthology film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 25, 2018.
