It has taken a good, long while, but this May Star Wars fans will see one of the franchise’s most popular characters finally take the lead role in his own film. Solo: A Star Wars Story will recount the early years of notorious galactic smuggler and rogue with a heart of gold Han Solo. The character was first introduced in Star Wars: A New Hope all the way back in 1977, but this is the first time a movie will revolve solely around his doings.

The road to release for Solo has been a rocky one, to say the least. The film was originally slated to be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, only for the duo to be fired in June of last year. Ron Howard was ushered in to direct the movie two days after the firings were announced. Since then, some fans have been worried that the Han Solo movie might be moving a little too fast. The trailer didn’t assuage those fears.

In the shadow of such uncertainty, an animated trailer for a fan-made project has emerged. Created by YouTube user Daz Tibbles, the trailer recreates certain aspects of the Solo trailer with a distinct animated styling, but that’s not all there is. The creator is adamant there’s more on the way, but it is a personal project, so don’t go expecting more news about the animated Han Solo movie tomorrow.
