Yes, Mark Hamill Always Knew How Star Wars: The Last Jedi Would End

SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, in theaters now.

Actor Mark Hamill has debunked rumors that the fate of Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars: The Last Jedi was kept secret from him, confirming that he did indeed know the Jedi Master would die all along.

Responding to online claims that Hamill's Luke was killed off as a result of him criticizing Rian Johnson's plans for the character, he tweeted -- "Amazing! Every word in that tweet is WRONG. No wonder they have ANON in their title. I'd want to remain anonymous if I were spewing complete BS, too. #Disney angered? Final scene a surprise to me? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!! #WhattaLoadaSITH"

He dispelled the notion that the death of Luke, endured after he Force-projected to fight Kylo Ren on Crait, was added in in post-production. Despite the fan backlash, the film has excelled at the box office but that didn't stop Hamill from recently making  headlines by claiming that this version of Luke -- one that gave up after he helped turn Ben Solo into Kylo Ren -- wasn't the Jedi he knew.

However, he quickly walked back those statements, pointing out that the media twisted his words and that he was down with Johnson's vision for the character. After the Kylo Ren battle, Luke's life-force dissipated and he passed into the afterlife, but as we have seen in this franchise, that doesn't mean he can't return to J.J. Abrams' Episode IX as a Force ghost.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi stars Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma.
