Production on Showtime's upcoming television adaptation of the popular Xbox video game series Halo is officially underway.

This news comes straight from Halo Waypoint -- the website operated by current developer of the Halo video games, 343 Industries. "Yes, the news is true!" said 343's own John Junyszek, aka Unyshek. "Production on Showtime's Halo TV series has begun and, from the bits I've seen so far, it looks incredibly promising."

Junyszek continued, "Members of the studio have been working closely with our partners and we even have Kiki Wolfkill, Head of Transmedia, and Kenneth Peters, Senior Franchise Writer, on-site in Budapest right now. Since she's on the set, Kiki snapped a simple, yet meaningful, behind-the-scenes photo for us just to prove that it's really happening -- so be sure to thank her!"

The photo taken by Wolfkill and shared by Junyszek is very meaningful indeed, as it offers a look at a chair belonging to classic Halo character Dr. Catherine Halsey, creator of the AI known as Cortana. A previous report from Deadline suggested both Halsey and Cortana would be played by Californication's Natascha McElhone. McElhone will star opposite Orange Is the New Black alum Pablo Schreiber -- who plays the lead role of UNSC Navy Spartan-II John-117, the Master Chief.
