The Halo franchise began with Halo: Combat Evolved in 2001. The series, which remains one of the most popular science fiction franchises, primarily follows Master Chief, who is part of a group of elite super soldiers known as Spartans. There have been several main installments of the franchise and many spin-offs, which further broaden the universe. There have also been comics, books, web series and various other media based in the world of Halo.

Halo's journey from gaming to cinema has been a long one, as the big screen adaptation was canceled two years after being announced. A live-action series from Showtime was later greenlit. Original director Rupert Wyatt later stepped down, with Robin Hood director Otto Bathurst replacing him.

Halo will release in early 2021. The show stars Pablo Schreiber, Natascha McElhone, Bokeem Woodbine, Bentley Kalu, Kate Kennedy, Natasha Culzac and Shabana Azmi.
