Images of a creative and dedicated fan show off a personal recreation of the Orbital Drop Shock Trooper armor from Halo 3: ODST.

Reddit user WhenInMaine posted pictures of himself geared up as one of the Unites States Space Command's (UNSC) Helljumpers, taking special care to show the armor's painstakingly-crafted detail. Images captured by photographer Ryan Greer showcases a lone trooper cautiously traversing the wilderness, as well as up-close shots of the armor's battle scars and insignias.

Fans of Halo are praising the costume, complimenting the sturdiness of the build, as well as the overall accuracy of the armor's design. Many believed that it could've been a screenshot lifted from the game itself, noting the small scuffs on the paint job that brought the entire costume so close to realism. WhenInMaine responded with insight into its creation by writing, "Thank you! I tried a new method of base coating silver, putting down a layer of toothpaste and salt where I wanted chipping, and then putting the base colors down. That makes a really realistic chipping effect when you wipe the salt and paste away!"

For those looking to don their own set of trooper armor, WhenInMaine uploads cosplay pictures and guides of his creative process on his Instagram. If hungry for more creative fan works, recently, DC cosplayer Masked Mateo showed his own take on Nightwing from the upcoming Gotham Knights video game. Followers of the long-running Metroid series have also come out with their own costumes in celebration of the release of the latest entry into the franchise, Metroid Dread.

Halo 3:ODST was originally released in 2009 as a prequel to Halo 3. The story centers around a rookie of the titular Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, as he finds himself stranded behind enemy lines, separated from his team and forced to fend off the alien enemies of the Covenant. At release, Halo 3: ODST received praise for its stunning visuals, immersive audio and addictive gameplay, though critics were also divided on a few subjects, such as its high retail price and the shift away from recurring series protagonist Master Chief.  The game's single-player campaign is included in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a compilation that also includes Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo: Reach and Halo 4.

The original Halo 3: ODST is exclusively available for Xbox 360. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available for Xbox One and PC. An enhanced version of Halo: The Master Chief Collection is also available for Xbox Series X|S.
