Universal has released the official synopsis for the latest Halloween film, and it promises a final showdown between Laurie Strode and her recurring masked stalker Michael Myers.

The synopsis from the movie's official website reads,

Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

The website also confirms the story by filmmakers David Gordon Green and Danny McBride will chart a new narrative path from the 1978 original. This supports previous comments from Halloween creator John Carpenter, who said the new film will completely ignore the events of any of the subsequent sequels, leaving only the first movie in the iconic slasher franchise as canon.

The extensive retcon raises the question whether Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode is still the long-lost sister of masked killer Michael Myers, a plot point originally introduced in 1981's Halloween II and continued in Rob Zombie's 2007 Halloween reboot. Regardless of Strode's connection to Myers, family looks to play a major theme in the upcoming horror film, with Judy Greer cast as Strode's daughter Karen and Andi Matichak cast as Strode's granddaughter Allyson.

Debuting October 19, the latest Halloween is directed by David Gordon Green from a script written with Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley.
