WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Halloween, now in theaters nationwide.

For fans of the Halloween films, it's no secret that Michael Myers is a remorseless killer. However, in the newest chapter of the slasher franchise, the enigmatic maniac refrains from murdering an innocent baby, and director David Gordon Green has since explained why the killer didn't... well, kill.

“Why doesn’t he? Because that would be so rude,” Green told Collider. “I think it was a consideration."

“Yes, it’s terrifying in its own right. And it was a last minute idea — I mean, why is there a baby crib in the living room?" he continued. "It was gonna be her husband sleeping on the couch, but then he didn’t show up and we scrambled and put a baby crib in there. And then, yeah, I thought it was interesting to see one ethical choice that he made in the movie. So that’s the one ethical choice he makes.”

Now in theaters, Halloween is directed by David Gordon Green from a script written with Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley. The film stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer and Andi Matichak, with Nick Castle and James Jude Courtney sharing the role of Michael Myers. The film is executive produced and scored by John Carpenter.
