A new clip from this week's Halloween revival shows masked killer Michael Myers' return to his hometown of Haddonfield with a nod to 1981's Halloween II.

As trick-or-treaters walk the streets of the sleepy Illinois town on Halloween night, The Shape takes a quick detour in an unsuspecting home to grab a hammer from its garage and violently dispatch a woman living inside just off-screen. After committing the brutal murder, Myers switches out the hammer for his trademark kitchen knife before setting out to find new victims.

While the events of all the Halloween sequels and reboots, including Halloween II, are ignored by the upcoming horror film, the sequence heavily references opening to the 1981 film. The prologue shows a wounded Myers temporarily seeking refuge in a home while a distracted elderly couple watched television. While Myers did not ultimately kill either of them, he did steal their kitchen knife to resume his rampage leaving some blood on the cutting board discovered by the female occupant.

The interior of the house in the released clip resembles that of the home in Halloween II's opening scene with Myers' victim dressed in the same attire right down to the hair rollers. While the pink-robed woman of Halloween II survived the events of that sequel, her more modern counterpart does not come off as fortunate.
