Halloween Kills was delayed a whole year from Oct. 2020 to Oct. 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, per producer Jason Blum, the next Michael Myers movie will not be receiving any further postponements.

"No," Blum said to Forbes. "If this is still going on next Halloween? No, we're not holding it. Halloween Kills is coming out next October come hell or high water, vaccine or no vaccine. It is coming out."

Early footage for Halloween Kills indicates the sequel takes place moments after the 2018 Halloween revival, with Michael Myers continuing to pursue Laurie and her family on Halloween night through Haddonfield, Illinois. Director David Gordon Green also revealed that the films working title, Mob Rules, plays into the film's larger plot.

"If the first film was somewhat retelling the origin of Myers and getting us up to speed with where Laurie had been all those years, then part two is about the outrage of Haddonfield," Green explained in an interview. "Mob Rules was our working title for the film. It's about a community that is united by outrage, and divided in how to deal with evil." Halloween Kills will also see the return of characters like Tommy Doyle (Anthony Michael Hall), an adult version of one of the children Laurie Strode babysat in the original Halloween.

Directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green, Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan and Chris Bernier, Halloween Kills stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak and Judy Greer. The film arrives in theaters Oct. 15, 2021.
