WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Halloween Kills, now playing in theaters and on Peacock.

Halloween Kills is the latest slasher extravaganza to hit movie screens. Not only does the film continue Michael Myers' story, but it also exponentially adds more kills to his overarching body count. That being said, Kills has Michael set a new personal record for most kills in one of his films. While some may argue this makes him the slasher with the most kills in the genre, his feats hardly reach that of Jason Voorhees of Friday the 13th.

Even though Michael was on the scene before Jason, his location in Camp Crystal Lake guaranteed many more victims to cross his path. Considering Jason never cared who was caught in the way of his machete, this made it a lot easier for him to rack up kills. In contrast, Michael had to skulk in the shadows during the day before strategically and stealthily taking lives at night. It wasn't until more recent films that the character would get more reckless with killing his victims, taking out large groups in the open.

From a behind-the-scenes perspective, Jason's massive box office appeal in the early years merited the studio to greenlight multiple sequels. As a result, more films were released in a shorter time span than the Halloween films. This allowed Jason to continue killing throughout eight films in the main series. However, it wouldn't be until Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan that the hockey mask-wearing revenant would go big in terms of kills.

To get to the big apple, Jason hitched a ride on a passenger ship, taking a group of teens to New York City. While on the vessel, he proceeds to kill almost every person on board. While only a handful of deaths were shown, a collection of others occurred off-screen, with only the aftermath being shown. However, when the ship set sail, at least twenty other students were on board. While it wasn't shown, Jason had likely killed them all, making his kill count just over 40 in one film. At the time, this was an unprecedented amount of kills for the genre but was quickly surpassed once the rights to Jason went to New Line Cinema.

After New Line got their hands on the Jason franchise, they sought to have him face off with the Dream Master himself, Freddy Krueger. Before that, Jason still had a couple more bloody adventures. In Jason X, Jason heads off to space in the distant future. Upon awakening on a massive spaceship, Jason picks up right where he left off and begins to kill most of the crew. After killing the ship's captain, the vessel careens into a space station, killing thousands.

Halloween Kills has undoubtedly shown that the kill count competition between slashers is still alive and well. However, the film has also shown that creativity between the kills is also going strong. There's no doubt that Michael has impressed in terms of how many he has killed in just one of his films, but he has a lot of work ahead of him if he hopes to beat Jason's astronomical body count.

Halloween Kills is now in theaters and streaming on Peacock.
