Ever since the start of the slasher horror franchise Halloween in 1978, Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode has been the protagonist most commonly associated with the film series. However, it appears Laurie may be taking a backseat role to her granddaughter Allyson in Halloween Kills. In fact, while Laurie obsessively hunted serial killer Michael Myers in the 2018 film, she will become more of the voice of reason compared to her vengeful granddaughter in the sequel."She's a voice of both insight and reason that is trying to give a volatile community some sense of purpose in this film," director David Gordon Green told Total Film magazine.

Green hinted that Laurie would spend most of the sequel in the hospital recovering from the injuries she endured in the 2018 film as the community descends into anger over The Shape's latest wave of murders. While Allyson will be among the most prominent figures fueling Haddonfield's mob-rules hunt for the killer, Laurie will serve as the film's emotional core, while her daughter Karen, portrayed by Judy Greer, will fall somewhere in the middle.

"[Allyson] was a very relatable, girl-next-door type of character," Green observed, comparing the character to her original appearance and the sequel. "Allyson here, just hours later...she is ignited. She is, in some ways, leading the charge, and is one of the more bloodthirsty of the group. Whereas, Karen, who has dealt with her mother psychologically more intimately, is trying to resist those temptations."
