The 2018 Halloween revival film had Michael Myers break out 40 years after his infamous killing spree depicted in the classic 1978 slasher film by John Carpenter, leaving a new trail of bodies in his wake. According to returning filmmaker David Gordon Green, the small town of Haddonfield won't take this renewed wave of violence idly in the sequel, Halloween Kills.

While teasing what audiences can expect in next year's sequel Halloween Kills, Green observed that Haddonfield would form an angry mob to hunt down the escaped serial killer, picking up directly after the events of the original film, as they seek their own bloody form of justice. The word "Mob" will come into play again with Halloween Kills's working title, "Mob Rules."

"If the first film was somewhat retelling the origin of Myers and getting us up to speed with where Laurie had been all those years, then part two is about the outrage of Haddonfield," Green explained in an interview with Total Film magazine. "'Mob Rules' was our working title for the film. It’s about a community that is united by outrage, and divided in how to deal with evil.”

Green noted that franchise protagonist Laurie Strode's granddaughter, Allyson, would play a central role in the film, leading the community to search for the relentless slasher. In the meantime, Green is prepping Halloween Kills' own direct sequel, Halloween Ends, hoping to begin principal photography this fall.

"It’s a very different movie than Kills and both [the 1978 and 2018] Halloweens," Green hinted. "The script feels very fun. For me, it was essential to say, ‘Here’s a conclusive episode to my trilogy.’ I’m trying to bring closure to my ‘Laurie Strode versus Michael Myers’ storytelling.”

Directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green, Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan and Chris Bernier, Halloween Kills stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Andi Matichak and Judy Greer. The film arrives in theaters Oct. 15, 2021.
