David Gordon Green, co-writer and director of the rebooted Halloween trilogy, revealed he just came up with “a new twist ending” for next year’s Halloween Ends.

"It’s very different in tone from Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills, and I think that’s part of my self-indulgence," Green told The Hollywood Reporter when asked about the third and final installment in the slasher trilogy. "I very often jump around in genres and explore different themes and characters through movies. So I’ve made a point for my own interest as a fan to take different technical approaches to each of the three in this trilogy. So I’m excited to show you guys what we’re working on, but we’re just cooking it up right now." He added, "I’m sure it will evolve. I just came up with a new twist ending on the ending that existed a couple weeks ago, and that’s something that only I hold the piece of paper that has those words on it. So no spoilers here."

Although Halloween Kills takes place immediately following the events of 2018’s Halloween, Green previously revealed that Halloween Ends will jump forward into a contemporary timeline. The filmmaker also shared how the COVID-19 pandemic will play a role in the final chapter. "Where we're leaving these characters on Halloween 2018, the world is a different place," he said. "So not only do they have their immediate world affected by that trauma, having time to process that trauma -- and that's a specific and immediate traumatic event in the community of Haddonfield -- but then they also had a worldwide pandemic and peculiar politics and another million things that turned their world upside down."

Meanwhile, the saga of original scream queen Laurie Strode may finally come to a close in Halloween Ends. "I would say, given what I know about the next movie, I think it will be the last time I will play [Laurie Strode]," Jamie Lee Curtis recently said. "And I'm not saying something like, 'Oh, because I die!' It's nothing to do with that. I'm talking about emotionally what they have constructed. I think it will be a spectacular way to end this trilogy."
