The filmmakers behind next year's Halloween Ends have rewritten the script to allow Kyle Richards to reprise her fan-favorite role of Lindsey Wallace.

According to Variety, Richards closed a deal to return for the final chapter in David Gordon Green’s new trilogy of films in the horror franchise. "When my character didn’t die, I was like, 'Uhh, hello!'" said Richards, whose Lindsey survived her terrifying encounter with Michael Myers in the recently released Halloween Kills.

After Richards received a positive response from fans for her performance in Halloween Kills, the team behind the rebooted series reportedly rewrote Halloween Ends to include her character and expand her storyline. Producer Jason Blum said, "We are thrilled that Kyle will be reprising her role in Halloween Ends. The return of iconic characters in Halloween Kills was really important to David Gordon Green. And he took great pains to bring back the original actors when he could."

Richards first played Lindsey Wallace, the young girl that Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode babysat, in the original 1978 Halloween. The former co-stars didn’t cross paths in Halloween Kills, but Richards hope they’ll reunite in the upcoming installment. "The last movie, I saw Jamie on the set, but we didn’t have stuff together," she noted. "So I’m really hoping that there is more stuff together. I can’t talk about any storylines, but all I can say is that we start filming in January, and I’m so excited to return with Jamie Lee Curtis and David Gordon Green."

The 2018 Halloween reboot was a massive success at the box office, grossing $255 million worldwide on a $10 million budget. This year’s Halloween Kills -- which was available to stream on Peacock the same day it hit theaters -- earned a more modest $131 million globally, but was still considered a pandemic-era success and stands as one of the highest-grossing horror movies of the year.

Green recently revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic will play a role in the plot of Halloween Ends, which is also said to mark the swan song of original scream queen Laurie Strode. Curtis, however, has remained coy on whether or not that means her iconic character will die in the final chapter of the trilogy.

Green also recently said he came up with "a new twist ending" for Halloween Ends, which he described as "very different in tone" from the previous two installments.

Halloween Ends hits theaters Oct. 14, 2022.
