On October 14, audiences will see the end of David Gordon Green's Halloween trilogy with the final chapter, Halloween Ends. The film will reportedly feature the final confrontation between masked slasher Michael Myers and constant series survivor Laurie Strode. Although it will most likely not be the very last time that the Shape terrorizes people on the silver screen, it will be the final time that Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her iconic role as Laurie.

Because of that, fans will be speculating on whether Halloween Ends will actually kill off Curtis' version of the protagonist. To be fair, the series has done this twice already, including onscreen in Halloween: Resurrection. Green's reboot -- which spun off from a separate timeline that erased all sequels -- corrected that misstep by bringing Laurie back alive. If Halloween Ends killed her off again, it would not only repeat one of the franchise's biggest mistakes but also be the biggest one, considering the character arc that the recent films have built up.

The Films Have Been Building Toward Laurie's Victory

Halloween Ends Laurie Strode Jamie Lee Curtis

Throughout Green's Halloween films, audiences saw the effect that Michael Myers had on Laurie Strode's life. After the events of John Carpenter's original 1978 film, Laurie became a recluse and an alcoholic due to the traumas she suffered. She lost custody of her daughter Karen and built her home as a trap to kill Michael. It ultimately did not finish Michael off but allowed Laurie, Karen, and her granddaughter Allyson to escape in 2018's Halloween.

The events of Halloween Kills were even more devastating to Laurie since Michael brutally killed Karen, whom she had tried to protect for her whole life. Now, with Halloween Ends, she will have to fight for herself and her granddaughter. If Laurie is victorious in her final battle with Michael, it would make her character arc seem complete, as opposed to just killing her off. Instead, she will have vanquished her own personal boogeyman and be able to show that she can live a normal life again -- even though she would still be mourning the loss of Karen.

Laurie's Survival Would Be More Satisfying to Viewers

Not only would Laurie's survival in Halloween Ends complete her character arc, but it would also be more satisfying to viewers. Audiences like to see their horror protagonists get their revenge, and this would be especially enjoyable after Laurie and her family were put through the wringer in Halloween Kills, which came off as The Empire Strikes Back of the series. It is time to give Laurie the victory she deserves, and hopefully, Halloween Ends will do it with a brutal fight that will have audience members cheering for her.

Although Halloween Ends will be the last time audiences see Curtis as Laurie, there's zero chance it will be the last one for Michael. After all, Hollywood can never keep a good horror villain down, especially when it is profitable -- and audiences at Halloween feel entitled to one good scare.

Watch Laurie and Michael face off for the last time when Halloween Ends hits theaters and Peacock on October 14.
