Laurie Strode, Jamie Lee Curtis’ trauma-hardened Halloween final girl, has officially returned to Haddonfield, Illinois for Halloween Ends, the conclusion to David Gordon Green’s "prequel" horror trilogy.The 63-year-old actress shared a mirror selfie on Twitter with the caption "old dog, new tricks," punctuated with a knife emoji in-between. While many fans easily extrapolated that Curtis was referring to the start of production on Halloween Kills, sources throughout the day confirmed this justifiable assumption. Shortly after her tweet, Curtis was spotted wearing the same outfit featured in her post on the set of the long-awaited conclusion to Green’s horror trilogy.
Current Michael Myers actor James Jude Courtney stated in August 2021 that production on Halloween Ends was re-slated for January 2022, pushed from a fall 2021 start. Though the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the release of the franchise’s sophomore entry, Halloween Kills, it appears that production is moving forward as scheduled on the trilogy’s final installment. The push to an early 2022 start to filming seems to have been a concise decision by Blumhouse and the film's creative team, rather than a COVID-necessitated rescheduling.
The onset of COVID-19 did impact Green’s overall plans for the Halloween trilogy, both behind the scenes and in the script. The director recently confirmed that Halloween Ends will feature a four-year time jump that will allow for the incorporation of plot points about the pandemic and our modern world. This likewise means that Curtis’ Strode will have had four years to ruminate on the tragedy of the single night that spanned both Halloween and Halloween Kills, an evening of bloodshed that culminated in the tragic death of her daughter Karen at the hands of Michael Myers.
While Green has discussed elements of his upcoming film, including the time jump and return of the franchise-favorite character Lindsey Wallace, the major details about the climatic horror entry have been kept under wraps. Many fans hope that Curtis’ Laurie will finally be given a chance to deal the final blow on the nearly superhuman Michael Myers in Halloween Ends, ending his reign of terror in Haddonfield once and for all.
Halloween Ends is slated for a fitting October 2022 release.
