A familiar voice is returning to Haddonfield ... or at least someone that sounds a lot like a familiar voice.

The upcoming Halloween revival has cast a voice to impersonate the late Donald Pleasence who portrayed Dr. Sam Loomis in five films of the slasher film franchise. As Pleasence died in 1995, shortly before appearing posthumously as Loomis in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, the production turned to a soundalike voice actor to provide Loomis' voice in the new film.

"We have a Donald Pleasence soundalike," revealed director David Gordon Green in an interview with Yahoo!. "Obviously he’s no longer with us, but having someone that could mimic his voice was a fun challenge. And we nailed it, I think. If I do say so myself. And then there’s a couple other [nods to previous Halloween films]. There’s a vocal cameo you may or may not notice till the end credits."

The role of Dr. Loomis, Michael Myers' psychiatrist, had first been offered to fan-favorite actor Christopher Lee for the 1978 original by filmmaker John Carpenter. After Lee turned it down, Pleasence was cast appearing in five films of the horror series not including an audio excerpt in the prologue of 1998's Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later. Malcolm McDowell was cast in the role for Rob Zombie's 2007 Halloween remake and reprised the role for its 2009 sequel.

Based on footage shown earlier this month at Comic-Con International in San Diego, the film does indeed include nods to the entire franchise with Silver Shamrock masks from 1982's Halloween III: Season of the Witch appearing briefly on screen. With the reveal that Dr. Loomis will return in some capacity, it will be interesting to see what other Easter eggs make an appearance in the revival.

Debuting on October 19, the latest Halloween is directed by David Gordon Green from a script written with Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley. The film stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak with Nick Castle and James Jude Courtney sharing the role of masked killer Michael Myers. The film is executive produced and scored by original filmmaker John Carpenter.
