40 years since its debut and time has not slowed down the Halloween franchise especially in regards to box office totals.

Industry analysts estimate the latest entry in the longrunning slasher series will earn $80.5 million domestically at the box office during its opening weekend. This puts it above Sony's Venom, which earned $80.2 million during its opening weekend at the beginning of the month, to become the highest earning October theatrical release of all time.

The adjusted estimates come after the horror film earned $7.7 million during its Thursday night previews and an additional $33.2 million on its full opening day at the domestic box office. This puts the film on track for the second highest R-rated horror movie opening of all time behind last year's It which earned $123.4 million its opening weekend in September 2017 including an opening day haul of $50.4 million.

Estimates from the beginning of the week had the 11th entry in the Halloween franchise earning approximately $70 million domestically its opening weekend with an additional $30 million from foreign markets. Based on the solid opening day and preview numbers, the latest entry is on track to easily top this initial estimate making the possibility of a sequel a virtual guarantee.

Out in theaters now, Halloween is directed by David Gordon Green from a script written with Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley. The film stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak with Nick Castle and James Jude Courtney sharing the role of masked killer Michael Myers. The film is executive produced and scored by original filmmaker John Carpenter.
