Producer Jason Blum claims his new Halloween trilogy won’t suffer from the same middle-movie issues that affected Peter Jacksons' Lord of the Rings trilogy.

“I worried about it until I saw [the second one]," Blum told io9. "And David [Gordon Green, director] worried about it. That it would feel like, remember Lord of the Rings? Like you weren't getting [the full story]? It doesn't feel like that at all."

"[Halloween Kills] feels like a complete movie," he continued. "There’s a first, second, and third act. It has a big end. You still know from the end of the second movie where the third movie is going, but the second movie ends in a totally satisfying way. So it doesn’t feel like, you know, that Lord of the Rings issue that they had."

Blum explained how plans for a trilogy began to form after he and director Gordon Green watched the first movie, which brought back Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode to confront Michael Myers once more. After the screening, they spoke about continuing the story, and Blum was told by the director that he already had a firm idea of where to guide the story across three movies.

Halloween Kills arrives in theaters later this year on Oct. 16. The final part of the Halloween trilogy, Halloween Ends, opens on October 15, 2021.
