When Karasuno finally got the upper hand, Hinata came down with a fever of 102.4°F. Kageyama caught onto it first and reasoned that it was because Hinata overworked himself in the prior days. He didn't want to be benched, but it was for his own good.

Though this was a devastating moment for the team, it was a pivotal scene revealing Hinata's fortitude. Atsumu watched the match from the stands and recognized that it took three of the strongest teams in the country to wear Hinata out.

Not including Kageyama's backstory in the movies would be a major mistake. Fans already know how and why Hinata fell in love with volleyball. However, most fans had no idea about where Kageyama's passion for the sport came from.

Kageyama has loved volleyball since he was an infant. His sister and grandfather showed him the ropes, and he's been hooked ever since. He lost his grandfather a year before starting high school and flunked Shiratorizawa's entrance exams. He felt like all hope was lost as he enrolled at Karasuno. Until he met Hinata, Kageyama found himself growing lonelier in the sport. His backstory is shown as a flashback mid-game, but at the end, he recognizes Hinata as his best friend and greatest competition.
