What are Gemstones

Hades Gemstone description

Within the world of Hades, gemstones are sparkling treasures that grow within the hardest of rocks. The Gods of the Underworld see them as a glimmer of light in the darkest depths, so they are precious.

Even the human surface dwellers can see the beauty that is found deep within the world's surface. Many humans take gemstones from the Underworld to make crafts and wares for humanity despite Hades' ownership. He allows it to happen because, in the end, Humans will come to him for judgment.

How to use Gemstones

Gemstones, or gems, are extremely useful in the Underworld. Zagreus can use them for just about anything and everything. During Zagreus' first attempts at escape, gems can make things easier by doing some Underworld upgrades. The House Contractor will change a lot in the Underworld with only gemstones. Giving gems to him will unlock several Underworld upgrades like placing healing fountain chambers and increasing Infernal Troves' value. Gems can also cause random chamber urns to spawn Charon's Obol allowing Zagreus to collect more items.

Gemstones don't just make things easier for Zagreus. They also make the Underworld a better place to live or exist. The House Contractor can update parts of the House of Hades. The chairs can be comfortable; the curtains can gain some color and the walls get updates. Once things are looking good in the House of Hades, Zagreus can take his gemstones and trade them for other materials. Bringing gems to the Wretched Broker can net some Chthonic Keys and during limited offers, Zagreus can pick up Titan Blood.

Where to Farm Gemstones

With so many uses for gemstones, players will need multiple places to find them. As mentioned up top, gems are throughout the Underworld. The first place players can find gems is as a chamber reward. Completing any chamber that has a gemstone on the door will give Zagreus five to ten gemstones. Those numbers will increase with specific boons and perks that increase gemstone gains. For instance, weapons with a 20% gem bonus and Chaos' Eclipse boon will increase gems every time they drop.

The next place players can find gems are within Infernal Troves. These chests spawn randomly inside Underworld chambers. Each one will present an additional challenge in the room for the extra reward. Infernal Trove rewards can also be affected by gem increasing perks.

Fishing in the Underworld will also help Zagreus get some extra gems. Depending on what kind of creature Zagreus finds, the Head Chef will buy it for materials. Common catches will give 5 gems, while rarer finds will give Zagreus up to 150 gems.

Charon can sell gems, Wretched Broker Limited Time offers or in Zagreus' Fated List rewards. The Wretched Broker will sometimes ask for rarer materials like Titan Blood or Chthonic Keys. These trades are not generally a good idea because of the rarity of these items.

Lastly, completing specific Fated Lists in Zagreus' room will give gems as a reward. Once these lists are finished, they can not be completed again, so this is not a repeatable source.

Gemstones are just as valuable in Hades as they are in the real world. Each gem shines a bright light in the Underworld, and the Gods surrounded by darkness appreciate every glimmer. Using gems can open up the possibilities for Zagreus while making the House of Hades a better place. Keep searching for those gemstones and make everyone happy.
