The new trailer for the action-packed Guns Akimbo helps explain a Daniel Radcliffe meme that went viral back in 2018.

The film stars Radcliffe as Miles, an underachieving loser who wakes up one morning to find guns bolted into his hands. He eventually discovers that he has been unwilling enrolled in a series of gladiatorial deathmatches that are live-streamed to millions of viewers over the dark web, and that he must play the game to save himself and his ex-girlfriend, Nova.

The first photos from the film surfaced online in May 2018, which quickly became memeified to the internet's delight. The memes usually refer to Radcliffe's Harry Potter films, but have taken other forms as well.

The film first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival on September 9, 2019. It is scheduled for wide release on March 5.

Jason Lei Howden previously directed 2015's Deathgasm, which became a cult classic after positive reviews and strong word of mouth.

Written and directed by Jason Lei Howden, Guns Akimbo stars Daniel Radcliffe, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mark Rowley, Colin Moy Ned Dennehy and Samara Weaving. It opens in theaters on March 5, 2020.
