Netflix has released a (somewhat literally) delicious poster for Gunpowder Milkshake, confirming its release date.Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Who and Jumanji alum Karen Gillan will star in Gunpowder Milkshake, an original action movie that's slated to begin streaming on Netflix July 14. In addition to tweeting out its poster and release date, the streamer highlighted the film's all-star cast, including Gillan's costars Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Carla Gugino (The Haunting of Bly Manor), Michelle Yeoh (Crazy Rich Asians), Angela Bassett (Black Panther) and Paul Giamatti (Billions).RELATED: Arnold Schwarzenegger's Spy Series Gets Greenlight at Netflix

Gunpowder Milkshake centers on "three generations of female assassins who fight to stop a vicious cycle of violence that has haunted their lives" by defending a young girl named Emily (Chloe Coleman). The movie was acquired for theatrical release by STX Entertainment in Feb. 2020, prior to being sold to Netflix in response to the impact of the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the global theatrical market. However, Netflix has confirmed Gunpowder Milkshake will still release in theaters internationally at some point this summer.

On top of acquiring the film, Netflix is currently planning to develop a sequel to Gunpowder Milkshake. It joins Zack Snyder's zombie action/horror movie Army of the Dead on the list of Netflix Originals that are actively being expanded into franchises. What's more, the streaming giant has spent $450 million to secure the rights to Rian Johnson's two sequels to his popular 2019 murder-mystery Knives Out. The first of those films has added Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn and Leslie Odom Jr. to its cast, with Daniel Craig set to reprise his role as Benoit Blanc when production begins this summer.

A month after Gunpowder Milkshake premieres on Netflix, Gillan will lend her voice to the animated version of her Marvel Cinematic Universe character, Nebula, in Marvel's What If...? series on Disney+. She will once again play the superhero in live-action when Thor: Love & Thunder arrives in 2022, before returning to the role for potentially the final time in 2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Directed and co-written by Navot Papushado, Gunpowder Milkshake stars Karen Gillan, Lena Headey, Carla Gugino, Chloe Coleman, Ralph Ineson, Adam Nagaitis, Michael Smiley, Michelle Yeoh, Angela Bassett, and Paul Giamatti. It will begin streaming on Netflix July 14 and play in theaters internationally this summer.
