The Suicide Squad: Gunn Compares Scripting Process to Dawn of the Dead

Before he returns to Marvel Studios for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn will first make The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. Now, as he gets to work on the script, he has compared writing Suicide Squad to his process for Dawn of the Dead.

Speaking with Deadline, Gunn discussed his firing from Disney as well as his plans for DC and Marvel. He also spoke about writing the script for The Suicide Squad and how the film came easily to him. "The Suicide Squad sequel, it just instantly started flowing," Gunn said. "I don’t think I’ve had as much fun writing a script since maybe Dawn of the Dead. That’s what this whole movie has been like."

Gunn got his start making movies for Troma before he got his break in Hollywood. His first major screenplay was Scooby-Doo, followed by Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed and the Dawn of the Dead remake from Zack Snyder, the former architect of the DC Extended Universe.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
