Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island revealed more of its cast, characters and the customized mobile suits that they will be piloting.

As revealed by the movie's official Twitter account, a new set of characters has been cast for the film. The characters are all part of Zeon's infamously effective Southern Cross Squadron, and pilot customized versions of the MS-06GD High Mobility Zaku. The squad will be voiced by an all-star lineup of veteran Japanese voice actors: Yuu Hayashi, who voiced Manjiro "Mikey" Sano in Tokyo Revengers, will star as the squad's rookie, Danan Rashica, while Shizuka Itou, who played Sailor Venus in Sailor Moon Crystal, will voice the squad's sole female member, Selma Levens. Gundam series alumni Atsushi Miyauchi and Youji Ueda, who previously starred in Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory and Gundam Thunderbolt respectively, return to the franchise to portray team leader Egba Atler and the sniper Wald Ren. Last but not least, Koji Yusa, the Japanese voice of Shadow from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, will voice Yun Sanho.

The new cast will join Toru Furuya, who will once again reprise his role as the series' original protagonist, Amuro Ray. Furuya has been voicing Amuro ever since the franchise's 1979 debut.Ken Narita will also return to voice Amuro's commanding officer, Bright Noa. Narita assumed the role of the slap-happy Federation officer in 2010's Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, after Bright's original voice actor, Hirotaka Suzuoki, passed away in 2006 from lung cancer. Shunsuke Takeuchi, who previously starred in 2021's Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, will voice the eponymous Cucuruz Doan, a Zeon deserter and the former leader of the Southern Cross Squadron.

The movie is a remake of the 15th episode of the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime. Set after the events of the deadly defense of Jaburo, the film sees the crew of the White Base traveling to a supposedly deserted island in order to track down any remaining Zeon stragglers. While scouting the island in his Gundam, Amuro comes across a group of war orphans and a former soldier, Cucuruz Doan, who has vowed to protect them. The situation is further complicated when Amuro gets separated from his Gundam and a new battle in the One Year War erupts over the island.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island is scheduled to premiere in Japan on June 3. Details about the movie's international release have yet to be announced.
