Guillermo del Toro to Direct WB's Beauty and the Beast

Much like Dracula, Beauty and the Beast is experiencing a resurgence lately. In addition to the two television adaptations in the works, Warner Bros. also has plans to move forward on its own version, with Guillermo del Toro attached to direct.

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, del Toro has been involved with the project since last spring, but it wasn't clear whether he would act as producer or director. Few people in Hollywood have more projects in the works than the Hellboy director, but it looks like he is set to direct Harry Potter's Emma Watson in what started out as an adaptation of Robin McKinley's novel Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of the Beauty and the Beast.

The story has changed since then and is now being tackled by screenwriter Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones's Diary, The Three Musketeers). Whether this will be his next film after the giant-robots-versus-giant-monsters Pacific Rim remains to be seen.
