The Shape of Water director Guillermo Del Toro just confirmed that filming for Scary Stories begins in a few days.

The noted horror/fantasy director has been attached to the project for years. He was initially slated to direct the film, but ultimately had to step away from the project. Instead, André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe) will direct the movie from a script by Daniel and Kevin Haggman (The LEGO Movie). Del Toro will serve as a producer.

On Twitter, Del Toro answered a question from a fan wondering about when the movie will begin production. In response, Del Toro announced, "We start shooting in a few days - in Toronto!" It's the first update on the movie since it was announced that CBS Films was moving forward with the project back in April.

The synopsis describes the film as a thriller focused on a group of teens who try to solve a mystery in their small town involving several sudden and macabre deaths. It’s unclear as yet how the film will incorporate the many short stories featured in the three books in Schwartz’s series.

Published in 1984, Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark trilogy of books has sold more than 7 million copies worldwide, and are among the most banned titles in libraries due to their frightening content.
