Visionary director Guillermo del Toro is returning to the world of Pan's Labyrinth in the form of a new book.

Guillermo del Toro is collaborating with New York Times best-selling writer Cornelia Funke (most famous for her Inkheart trilogy, which was adapted into a film staring Brandon Fraiser) to write an epic dark fantasy novel: Pan's Labyrinth: The Labyrinth of the Faun.

The novel is being advertised as a novel for all-ages. It will contain haunting illustrations and incredible short fiction. The Amazon description advertises the book as follows:

"This spellbinding tale takes readers to a sinister, magical, and war-torn world filled with richly drawn characters like trickster fauns, murderous soldiers, child-eating monsters, courageous rebels, and a long-lost princess hoping to be reunited with her family."

This will not be Guillermo del Toro's first journey into the literary realm either. Fans will remember The Strain, a series of vampire-thriller novels Guillermo del Toro co-wrote that was eventually adapted into the popular FX series.

Pan's Labyrinth still stands as one of Guillermo del Toro's greatest films. While his newest project might not satisfy the itch some fans may have in regards to seeing a full new film in that world, his newest project will mark his first return to this world since the release of his original film.

Pan's Labyrinth: The Labyrinth of the Faun is available for purchase on July 2nd, 2019.
