Netflix is venturing even further into the anthology horror TV genre, and they've chosen longtime horror patron Guillermo del Toro to lead the way. Del Toro will executive produce a new show of his creation titled Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight for the streaming company.
This collaboration with Netflix marks his second project with the streaming service, following on the success of the award-winning animated series Trollhunters. The new series will feature handpicked horror stories from Del Toro.
Del Toro will write and direct certain episodes, according to a Netflix press release, and the rest of the episodes will be helmed by filmmakers of Del Toro's choosing. The Shape of Water producer J. Miles Dale and Gary Ungar will serve as executive producers for the series.
Guillermo del Toro is an established horror enthusiast who has frightened audiences with past projects, such as Crimson Peak, The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth. He's also producing the film adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, a long-anticipated version of the popular children's horror book series.
This new horror anthology series will be the first Netflix Original of its kind, though it joins the popular techno-horror anthology series Black Mirror. Netflix also picked up anthology horror series Slasher last year from defunct Canadian channel Chiller. This new series sounds like it will differ from Slasher, in that it is likely an episodic anthology rather than a season-long horror story.
Netflix hasn't announced a release date for Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight as of yet.
