With the April release of the upcoming Avengers: Endgame, which will wrap up the Marvel cinematic Universe's Phase 3, rapidly approaching, speculation is growing about what MCU fans can expect for Phase 4. And while few details about the next stage of Marvel movies are known, it looks like it will include a third Guardians of the Galaxy film after all.

Though the franchise's future was in doubt following James Gunn's dismissal by Disney, the studio has recently begun to move forward with another installment. Karen Gillan, who played Nebula in the previous films, has confirmed that she has seen the script, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige assured fans at the Golden Globes that the movie will happen, though he did not provide any further details.

The director’s brother Sean Gunn is the most recent person to confirm that a third installment will indeed make its way to theaters. In a recent interview, Gunn, who played Kraglin and provided the motion-capture performance for Rocket Raccoon in the previous films, promised “Guardians 3 is going to get made. We’re going to make that movie, and we’ll figure out what happens there.”

The status of the film had been somewhat uncertain in the wake of Gunn's initial firing from the project fired from the third film in July 2018 when right wing political provocateurs publicized offensive tweets he had made in the past.

This isn't the first update Gunn has provided on the franchise's third chapter. he confirmed in September that Disney had decided to continue moving ahead with the Guardians 3 script written by his brother.
