The hunt for a director to replace filmmaker James Gunn to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has reportedly begun with Marvel Studios rumored to be searching for a female director for the project.

Rumors from entertainment news site SuperBrosMovies.com have mentioned that the studio has narrowed down its search to Dee Rees (Mudbound), Michelle McLaren (Game of Thrones), S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones), and Jane Campion (The Piano).

Of the rumored shortlist, McLaren was originally approached to direct last year's Wonder Woman before being replaced by Patty Jenkins. She is currently attached to direct the Image Comics adaptation Cowboy Viking Ninja with Chris Pratt starring in the project though production has reportedly been delayed.

Clarkson also comes from a television background having directed episodes of Netflix's Jessica Jones but is currently attached to direct Star Trek 4 for Paramount as the project faces the loss of actors Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth.
