Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is on a course to top the North American box office for the second consecutive weekend, blasting past new releases King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Snatched.

REVIEW: King Arthur: Legend of the Sword Is Epically Atrocious

While that's obviously good news for Marvel Studios, it's terrible for Warner Bros., whose King Arthur is already being branded a flop with a projected $14.5 million opening weekend. The Guy Ritchie action film did even worse overseas, where it grossed just $11.6 million.

Director James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 raked in another $16.4 million -- that's more than King Arthur's expected three-day total -- on its way to a $63.5 million second frame. By Sunday, the film will have crossed the $500-million mark worldwide.

The R-rated comedy Snatched, starring Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn, looks to finish a distant second with $16 million, followed by King Arthur, The Fate of the Furious ($1.6 million, bringing its domestic total to $214.9 million) and The Boss Baby ($965,000, bringing its U.S. haul to $162.1 million).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Baby Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, Chris Sullivan as Taserface, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Glenn Close as Irani Rael and Kurt Russell as Ego.
