Glenn Close's Nova Prime came very close to making a return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. During a fan Q&A on Twitter, director James Gunn revealed the character had a cameo that never made it into the film.

The Oscar-nominated actress appeared in the first Guardians of the Galaxy as Nova Prime, the leader of the Nova Corps. Though the character worked largely behind the scenes in the Nova Corps' operation, she ultimately made the decision to join in the fight against Ronan and was the last person seen with the purple Infinity Stone, which was left in her possession for safekeeping.

After the first movie's release, Close made it clear that she would love to return for the sequel. “When you play a character who they love and are amused by, hopefully they’ll see more of you,” she said in an interview at the time. “Especially at this point in my career, it’s fantastic. To be in the beginning of literally a whole new universe for people is really fun.” Unfortunately, that return never made it to the big screen, though there may be room for her in the recently announced Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Baby Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, Chris Sullivan as Taserface, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Glenn Close as Irani Rael and Kurt Russell as Ego. The movie is now available on digital download, DVD and Blu-Ray.
