Newcomer Pom Klementieff has joined the cast of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" in what The Hollywood Reporter describes as "a key role." No other details are known about the part at this time.

According to the report, Marvel had been searching for an Asian actress to fill the role. Klementieff was chosen after a wide search and series of chemistry reads.

Klementieff appeared in Spike Lee's "Oldboy" remake and performed martial arts for that role. She has worked mostly in France prior to this role.

Though her role hasn't been announced, Klementieff may be a candidate for Mantis, a half-Vietnamese, half-German woman who was left with the Priests of Pama, a sect of the Kree, as an infant. These Kree, who believe her to be the Celestial Madonna, taught her martial arts. She possesses the ability to instinctively sense weak points in an opponent as well as superhuman strength.

Directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" opens on May 5, 2017.
