Baby Groot danced his way into the hearts of audiences in 2014's "Guardians of the Galaxy," but with the stakes seemingly raised for the Marvel Studios sequel, will the adorable little sentient tree still have the moves?
Writer/director James Gunn assures that while Groot faces some obstacles in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," he won't leave fans hanging.
“They’ll get a little bit of a baby Groot happy dance in the beginning," he told Fandango, "but he’s definitely got his trials and tribulations in the film. It’s not an easy road for baby Groot.”
As in the original film, Gunn himself is responsible for Groot's smooth moves. “Yes, I still do all of Groot’s dancing in the film, in a much bigger way," he said. "I actually had to do like a full day’s worth of dancing to get Groot’s dance down this time. Last time it was me in front of an iPhone, and this time it’s me dancing on a huge soundstage and shooting it from five different angles.”
As for whether Groot remains a baby throughout the film, the director confirmed, “Yeah, this one’s all about baby Groot, it’s not about growing Groot.”
Opening May 5, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell.
