Concerns stemming from the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic led to a massive reshuffling of Marvel Studios' release slate, with Black Widow moving to Eternals' original release date, Eternals moving to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' original release date and so on and so forth. However, according to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, his franchise's upcoming third film has not been affected by these delays. On Twitter, Gunn doubled down on a recent statement he made that his upcoming Warner Bros./DC film The Suicide Squad was still on schedule to hit theaters on its planned release date of Aug. 6, 2021. In response to this, a fan asked if the same could be said for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, to which Gunn replied, "Right now, the plans with Vol. 3 are also exactly the same as they were before Coronavirus."RELATED: Guardians of the Galaxy: Rocket Plays 'Big Part' in Vol. 3

Notably, certain other Marvel films also managed to avoid being delayed as a result of COVID-19. While the reshuffling has affected Marvel's entire 2020-2021 release slate, the films already slated for release in 2022 have not been pushed back. 2022's Black Panther II has maintained its original release date, with Captain Marvel 2 even being bumped up by a few weeks. That being said, while it does not appear to have been hit with any delays, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 still lacks an official release date, as does Ant-Man 3.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 does not currently have a release date. However, the film is expected to begin production in February 2021.
