No sooner had Smallville alum Michael Rosenbaum added his name to the list of contenders for the lead role in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy than a handful of other casting rumors emerged.

According to ComicBookMovie, "Old Spice guy" Isaiah Mustafa, Generation Kill actor Brian Patrick Wade and former professional wrestler Dave Batista are in the running to play Drax the Destroyer in director James Gunn's space adventure. While the veracity of the report isn't known -- the information is attributed to "a source" -- the three men are certainly around the right height for the character; Wade is 6 feet 3 inches, Mustafa is 6 feet 4 inches, and Batista is 6 feet 6 inches.

In Marvel comics, Arthur Douglas and his human family were killed by Thanos. Needing a champion capable of defeating the Mad Titan, the cosmic entity Kronos rescued Douglas' spirit and placed it into the body of Drax the Destroyer, a being with superhuman strength and durability, and the ability to create blasts of cosmic energy.

The website also contends Marvel is "still high on" The Office star John Krasinksi for the lead role of Star-Lord, which implies the actor's name had been mentioned before, alongside the likes of Zachary Levi, Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace, Eddie Redmayne, Joel Edgerton and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. However, I don't recall Krasinksi coming up in any of the previous reports (although he was supposedly up for the role of Captain America in 2010).

Guardians of the Galaxy opens Aug. 1, 2014.
