Rocket Raccoon will have a larger role to play in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.The reveal came from director James Gunn after a Twitter user asked him if Rocket's origin will be addressed in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film."I'll just say Rocket is a big part of what's happening in the future - and a lot of this stuff (like the scars we're about to see on his back) sets up what I’ve been planning for Rocket all along," he wrote.RELATED: Guardians of the Galaxy 3: Vin Diesel Teases Groot's Next Evolution

Gunn offered some more insight into the hero a few minutes later, saying that Rocket's loneliness is not just central to the character, but to the entire Guardians franchise.

As to when we will see Rocket next, that question is a bit up in the air. Gunn is signed on to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but will not start on the film until he is finished with DC's The Suicide Squad. As a result, the space epic does not currently have a release date. However, fellow Guardians of the Galaxy star Vin Diesel confirmed that Thor: Love and Thunder will feature the Guardians. Still, it unclear if all the Guardians will show up.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 does not currently have a release date. However, the film is expected to begin production in February 2021.
