WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy #10 by Al Ewing, Juann Cabal, Federico Blee & VC's Cory Petit, on sale now.

When Guardians of the Galaxy began its latest run, the series started off with the shocking death of Peter Quill. He sacrificed himself on New Olympus as the reborn Greek gods were ravaging through space, attacking planets in the Kree-Skrull Imperium and using them as fuel for their flying kingdom.

In Guardins of the Galaxy #10, the pantheon of cosmic gods are back, but rather than being reborn with a fresh and heroic perspective, they want the head of Star-Lord.

Quill detonated a singularity bomb, creating a black hole, but rather than dying, he was tossed into another realm. In this dimension, Star-Lord went on a centuries-long trip of self-discovery and was blessed with the Master of the Sun's powers, returning to this reality as a cosmically powered sun god. His first act upon returning has him fighting off Knull's dragon after an assault on Spartax, but when Nova and the others ask him about helping fight the King in Black on Earth, he makes it clear he has other problems as Zeus and the other Gods of Olympus are coming for him.

It makes sense that they didn't die since Quill didn't, but the question remains as to where they've been all this time. No details are given regarding which reality they went to and seeing as they're returning in their same form, it looks like they're the same as before, angry and seeking vengeance on Star-Lord and the Guardians.

Zeus is leading the group again, alongside his wife Hera. Apollo is there as well and will undoubtedly want to have words with Moondragon and Phyla-Vell for destroying his lyre, and Artemis can't possibly be happy about Quill turning her into a diamond in their last encounter. Hephaestus has a stake in the coming confrontation as well, having been stabbed in the neck by Quill.

Hermes will be seeking a rematch with Marvel Boy after being soundly defeated, and seeing as how the Guardian is now dating Hercules, it'll be an intriguing family reunion. Hercules, after all, was held prisoner on New Olympus as it seemed like Zeus didn't appreciate him trying to talk them into being heroes. The pantheon's generally been benevolent under Zeus, fighting Amatsu-Mikaboshi and other villains in Chaos War, but it seems like their deaths in "No Way Home" left them feeling bitter, to say the least.

Hercules' journey will also intersect with Athena, whose fortune-telling abilities warned him of the great war to come, as well as Star-Lord's evolution and Moondragon merging with her old self. She expressed sorrow for the team and allowed them to escape, but it looks like she had already predicted they'd be back. She warned him that the next time they met she'd show no mercy, but Herc admitted that since she's his sister he'll always show her mercy. Quill also cares about Athena, so he might look to leverage their emotional connection. However, if Zeus has corrupted her the situation could prove to be detrimental to Quill and the other Guardians of the Galaxy.
