The first issue of Marvel Comics' Guardians of the Galaxy relaunch makes it a point to spotlight Gamora's badass, western-inspired redesign.

Guardians of the Galaxy #1 released on Wednesday, April 12 from writers Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, penciler/inker Kev Walker, colorist by Matt Hollingsworth and letterer Cory Petit. While the new series gives the entire Guardians lineup updated outfits to match the space western aesthetic, the official preview for issue #1 dedicates an entire splash page to Gamora's new look.

Marvel's new Guardians of the Galaxy series centers on a cataclysmic event known as "Grootfall," which promises to push the Guardians to the very brink. "Welcome to a whole new era for the Guardians of the Galaxy, riding like mad through an endless alien dust storm of sun-soaked tragedy, intense violence and deeply dysfunctional heroes," Lanzing previously said of the relaunch . "The optimistic peacekeepers that defeated the reborn Olympian Gods and overcame 'The Last Annihilation' have fallen about as far as they possibly could -- and now Peter Quill and what remains of his found family will have to fight like hell in a new western-fueled frontier to find a scrap of forgiveness. After all, the Guardians are a fire -- and a fire only ends one way."

The Guardians of the Galaxy Have a New Comic - And a New Movie

The Guardians of the Galaxy comic book relaunch also comes just one month before the release of Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is slated to bow in theaters on May 5 as part of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The fast-approaching film serves to close out writer-director James Gunn's space-faring Marvel trilogy, which began with Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014 and continued with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017.
