LEGO builders will soon be able to construct the Guardians of the Galaxy's ship, the "Benatar", this summer.
After the Guardians' former ship, the "Milano", was wrecked in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the Benatar was the ship the team used during both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Fans will likely remember it as the ship that Tony Stark was stranded aboard with Nebula for 22 days at the beginning of the 2019 film. However, fans will have to wait a little longer to build the LEGO version of the vessel, which releases on August 1, 2021.
The set will be a part of the company's "Infinity Saga" line of MCU-related sets and is rated for ages 14 and up with 1,901 pieces and 6 minifigures included. The set allows the builder to bring Guardians Rocket, Star-Lord, Groot and Mantis to life. Also included though is Thor, who joined the Guardians at the end of Avengers: Endgame so that the "Asgardians of the Galaxy" could be together again. However, not every Guardian is present in the build, and one outlier character is.
Despite the inclusion of Thor, popular original Guardians Drax and Gamora seem to be absent from the set entirely. If the set were focusing on the post-Avengers: Endgame period of time, it would make sense for Gamora to not be present, but Drax should be, even with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 supposedly being Dave Bautista's last film as the destroyer. Also odd is that one of the included minifigures instead is a Chitauri warrior.
The Chitauri were the primary antagonists of The Avengers alongside Loki in 2012. The only other times they were seen in the MCU included flashback sequences to the destruction of Gamora's home world in Avengers: Infinity War and in the final battle of Avengers: Endgame. Despite this, the Guardians have had little interaction with the alien army besides a deleted scene in Avengers Endgame, where Rocket calls them "the suckiest army in the galaxy."
Thus, it is interesting to see a member of the army in this set, as opposed to Drax, Gamora or even Nebula, who joined the team later on.
Regardless, the set will allow fans to build obvious areas of the ship featured in the MCU films. There is the cockpit where audiences got to jam out to "Rubberband Man" when the Guardians first appeared on screen in Avengers: Infinity War, the common area where Star-Lord and Thor have had more than one verbal standoff, the unloading dock and others. The set also includes a rotatable stand for the Benatar to be displayed on.
